The class will examine the key aspects of safe parking operations including fire prevention, theft, and damage to the facility.
This class will:
- Explain the difference between proactive and reactive safety procedures.
- Outline the legal obligations parking facility managers have for the safety of their customers and employees.
- Explore how to prepare a proactive safety plan for a parking facility.
- List appropriate emergency procedures in case of fire, robbery, accidents involving individuals or vehicles and damage to the facility.
- Examine how to prepare staff members on how to effectively handle a safety emergency.

Chris Hankins, CPP
Vice President, Colonial Parking, Inc. (DE) and Chair, NPA’s Certification Advisory Board
Chris Hankins is Vice President of Operations at Colonial Parking. He joined Colonial in 2007 and is responsible for Colonial’s overall operation. This includes forty facilities ranging in size from 20-space parking lots to 1,300-space garages.
His parking career began as a Valet Parking Manager, at an upscale mall and has also led significant parking operations like the Foxtown Entertainment District in Detroit, Michigan, consisting of 31 surface lots and 2 garages and the 17,438 parking spaces at the Philadelphia sports complex.
Chris is a certified Parking Professional (CPP) and led the management team at Colonial through the CPP accreditation program.
He plays an active role in the parking industry as chair of the National Parking Association’s Certification Advisory Board, which promotes and steers the Certified Parking Professional designation program.
