The NPA Emergency Preparedness Certificate Program is designed to provide parking professionals and leaders with the knowledge to develop an emergency preparedness plan, train staff to manage emergency situations. This is a skills competency certificate that builds fundamental knowledge in the application of safety practices within the parking environment.
This 3-part course is targeted to parking managers, emerging leaders, and supervisory level employees in commercial, municipal, health care, airport, special event, and other parking operations.
The content in the course is drawn from chapter 6, Disaster Planning, and Chapter 7, Safety, in the CPP Study Guide.
Successful completion of the course earns a certificate and 3 hours continuing education credit.

From weather-related issues to active shooters in the workplace, emergencies can affect parking facilities and operations just like any other business. It is critical therefore that parking managers should be able to respond to these emergencies diligently, professionally, and effectively to manage risk, safeguard employees and patrons, and protect their business assets.
The NPA Emergency Preparedness Certificate Program will demonstrate the appropriate steps to take to prepare in advance for an emergency situation. It will examine different types of emergencies that affect parking operations from natural ones like weather to human related emergencies like terrorism and operational disasters like fire or flooding situations.
The program will outline the building blocks of an emergency response plan to deal with these different types of incidents and it will demonstrate how to train staff in disaster and emergency procedures.

Part 1: Emergency Preparedness: Plan, Policies and Procedures
Every night, you hear news of the latest crisis: terrorism, natural disasters, disease outbreak. Before an incident occurs, parking professionals must take action to prepare for emergency situations. This course will:

Part 2: Management Playbook & Training:
This course will demonstrate how to develop employee training programs around emergency preparedness. How to train your staff, lead by example, and monitor their compliance. This course will:
- Identify training methods and tools to enable staff to handle emergencies
- Outline a “Stop The Bleeding” Technique
- Discuss FIU as a case study on managing operations in a crisis
Part 3: Mitigating Risk in Emergency Situations
How can parking organizations learn to mitigate risk in emergency situations? This course will review case studies of incidents to demonstrate how parking managers can apply the lessons learned to better equip their staff to manage risk. This course will:
- Explain how to implement solutions to mitigate risk in an emergency situation
- Identify training methods to empower staff to handle emergencies
- Discuss case studies and how to manage operations in a crisis situation
How to Earn the Valet Operations Certificate:
To earn the Emergency Preparedness Certificate, you must complete all 3 programs. The programs can be completed in any order. Upon completion of the course requirements, you will receive a certificate and earn 3 credit hours.
